Languages and Linguistic Policy in Mozambique.
The original objective from 2005 was:
Research in the historical base for the Mozambican languages.
A. Make a survey of the languages in Mozambique
Name, distribution, use in neighbouring countries, dialects.
B. Investigate the written dimension of each language
Dictionaries, Grammars and Literature.
C. The situation in the colonial time.
Language policy and the role of the missions
D. Examine the position of the languages after independence.

The initiatives taken to strengthen the status of the national languages.
After a study visit financed by VELUX-Fonden, to Maputo in November 2005, we came back with lots of new information and inspiration. Especially the university, UEM, INDE and Progresso have been very helpfull. Therefore the work with most of the topics above has been started and is carrying on well.
The new information gave inspiration to a change of objective for 2006:
Research in the introduction of national languages in primary teaching “Ensino Bilingue” (EB).
A. Maintain contact to UEM INDE and Progresso
Study visits, fieldwork for students etc.
B. Elaborate proposals to donors for support to EB
Production af school books
Linguistic research in the national languages
Education of teachers
Production of teaching material for the school libraries
C. Follow up on the first objective, keeping this web-site a jour
D. Inform about the linguistic situation in Mozambique.
Write articles.
Offer lecturers on the topic at the universities.
