2008.

Study Visit to Mozambique 7/2 -13/3 with support from DANIDA and  Velux Fonden.
The purpose of the visit was to explore the progress of:
"Educação bilingue" (EB)i.e. introduction of teaching by means of pupils' own language in the first classes.
We took contact to embassies, NGOs, educational institutions and authorities, and some of our old friends, who have an interest in the EB-project.
Embassies: The Danish Embassy (Isabel Mortado), the Norwegian Embassy (Elin Røhme), Swedish Embassy (Sandra Diesel) and the Dutch Embassy (Jeanette Vogelaar). Finally, we meet also (27 / 2) Jørgen Friis from "Danida Educação", along with Saida Cabral, (formerly INDE). They show all the interest in our project, but has nothing directly to do with EB Project.
NGOs: We took contact to IBIS (Arne Mortensen), to MS (Ulla Strøbeck) and to ARO (Gitte Byg de Araújo), which all are interested but not active in EB Project. Progresso work directly with EB in the northern provinces, and Tinie v Eys shows great interest in our project and is very helpful.
We took contact Dr. Eduardo Kitoko at Sociedade Bíblica Mozambicana who is actively engaged in to linguistic problems
Institutions: At INDE we get very good help from Mr Sendela, a linguist working on the EB-project. He gives us information about EB-schools and the difficulties in getting the books delivered - books that were sent for printing in 2006!
From "Ministerio de Educação e Cultura", we meet Samuel Vasco - my old boss - who is now councelor for the Minister of Education. We have a meeting with Directora Nacional de Educação Geral, Christina Tomo.
We participate in the opening ceremony of the Universidade Pedagógico in Quilimane and meet at that occation Hildezina Norberto Dias, Directora de Ensino Geral UP.
We visit the Instituto de Formação de Professores (IFP) in Munhuana and Quilimane. They are responsible for teacher training, and thus also for training teachers to EB.
From the University, we meet Professor Bento Sito, and David Langa (Chefe de Departamento de Lingua Bantu), and he arranges:
Lecture at the University d 10/3 on my research and EB (approximately 50 students)
We visit the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE), but results from the census in 2007 have not yet results about the national language.
We get contact to Violetta Juma (linguist), who previously worked at INDE; she is still very interested in EB and in our project.
D6/3 we hold a lecture at the Scandinavian school on EB etc.
On d 27/2 we visit Escola Primária Completa Mahubo 14 km, which is one of the few schools, that have EB on the program.
We also visit the UNESCO (Zulmira Rodrigues), who had no knowledge of EB Project. They had just held a seminar in Maputo on "Literacy Initiative for Empoverment" (Life), where the issue of mother tongue was not mentioned.
The results of our study visit can be seen on www.eb-moz.dk.

We decide to close down the project "Language and Culture in Mozambique". It should be done by giving our books on Mozambique's language to the library at UEM. We want to present the books as a gift from Aarhus University, and hope that it may serve as an introduction to collaboration between the universities. This assumes, of course, interest from both sides.
August. Contact UEM to ask if they are interested in our books.
